The Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) Division of Human Resources and Department of Family and Community Engagement are hosting Regional Volunteer Clearance Events for parents, guardians and community members who want to volunteer in their neighborhood schools. The next event will be on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Laurel Elementary School (516 Montgomery Street, Laurel, MD 20707). Fingerprinting will be from 4pm to 6pm, and training sessions will be from 5pm to 6pm and 6:15pm to 7:15pm.
Fingerprinting and background checks must be done 14 days in advance of serving as a volunteer in a PGCPS school unless it is a one-time activity under direct staff supervision, such as career day, science or STEM fair, college fair or Principal for a Day. Volunteers interested in serving as a teacher aide, mentor, tutor or field trip chaperone must:
- Obtain Child Protective Services and Fingerprint Background Clearance;
- Participate in three Safe Schools training modules at your volunteer school site, online, or Regional Volunteer Clearance Event training session.
Fingerprinting and background checks cost $57.60 payable in cash, money order or debit/credit card (except for American Express). The fee is waived for parents or guardians who bring documentation of approval for free or reduced-price school meals. All attendees must bring a valid, unexpired photo identification card, such as a driver’s license; state, school or military ID; U.S. passport; permanent resident card or employment authorization card.
Space is limited and walk-ins are not permitted. Attendees must pre-register online. Please call 301-952-6775 if you have questions or concerns.
