Hoyer Helps the Torres Family

Dear Hoyer Families,
The Sunshine Committee invites you to participate in a huge Hoyer effort to support Ms. Torres’ family in Puerto Rico. If you don’t already know her, Ms. Torres is one of our amazing Spanish teachers here at Hoyer.
Since Hurricane Maria devastated the island, basic resources such as food, batteries, medicine and gasoline are extremely scarce. Ms. Torres’s father lives in one of the most heavily affected areas and he cares for her 91 and 95 year-old grandmothers as well.
Their greatest need right now is cash. Banks and ATM machines across the country are either empty, not in service or have strict withdrawal limits. Her family desperately needs money to access basic needs, such as gasoline to run a generator for electricity several hours per day. They need resources to begin the arduous process of rebuilding their homes, business and lives. Her brother runs a body shop so his income has come to a complete halt since the hurricane.
Our help can go a long way in providing critical care safety and comfort as they endure tremendously difficult living conditions. Ms. Torres’ husband will travel to Puerto Rico on October 22, 2017. We are so fortunate to know that he will personally hand carry and deliver the Hoyer donation, ensuring its safe arrival and responsible use. We also enjoy the benefit of knowing that 100% of our donation will go directly to the dire needs of our extended Hoyer family in Puerto Rico (ie: no “overhead”, “administrative fees” or risk of organizational skimming).
If you are moved to donate, please send any cash contributions to the front office in an envelope marked on the outside with “Puerto Rico” by Friday, October 20th. Please include your student’s name(s) as well.
Thank you so much for your donation to this cause. Any amount is tremendously appreciated. We realize that there are multiple drives going on during a short period of time, but the causes are all worthy and the Hoyer family - well, we just show-up for each other like that!!!
Yours in service!
The Sunshine Committee
