Girls on the Run at Hoyer Montessori?

Girls on the Run-DC is looking to expand into Prince George's County, and Judith P. Hoyer Montessori is one of the tentative sites for the program this Spring! BUT we need your help. To bring GOTR into the county and into our school, we would need to raise at least $2,000 to have a GOTR team of 8 to 15 girls in the Spring.

WHAT IS GIRLS ON THE RUN?

Girls on the Run is a nationally recognized program that encourages girls to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others while doing physical activities. Lessons are designed to build girls' self-worth and help them feel greater confidence in who they are. The program also provides skill-building experiences to nurture girls' physical, social, and emotional competencies that they apply in other areas of their lives. At the end of each season, a GOTR team completes a 5K to give them a tangible opportunity to apply all that they have learned.

WHY DO WE NEED TO RAISE FUNDS FOR GOTR?

GOTR program fees include 5K finisher medals, water bottles, and shirts for each girl, training and certification for the team coaches, lesson materials, and costs associated with running a 5K at the end of the Spring season at Freedom Plaza. Expanding into the county means additional costs for GOTR, which is a non-profit organization. They are asking for each team to raise $2,000 by January 31 to help with the costs associated with the expansion.

WHY IS HOYER TRYING TO RAISE $5,000?

In addition to the $2,000 minimum set by GOTR, the GOTR program fee is $185 per team member. To make GOTR accessible to every family in our school, we are trying to raise funds to offset as much of that program fee as possible.

WHAT IF MORE THAN 15 GIRLS WANT TO SIGN UP FOR GOTR?

Based on a recent survey sent a few months ago, we have about 14 girls who are interested in signing up for the team this spring. If you have not had the chance to complete the survey, please send us your response ASAP: https://goo.gl/forms/PDJyhom3DPh6UDws2.

In order to host more than 1 team, we would need to raise at least $4,000 toward GOTR. Otherwise, we would need to run a lottery for the 15 spots in the team.

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?

Help Team Hoyer raise the funds to host a team and offset the costs for our students! We have set up our own fundraising page within the official GOTR, so we can keep track of our own fundraising goal. Here's what you can do to help:

2. Share the fundraising page with your family and friends and on social media. Let them know how much of a positive impact this program can make on our students.
